Beautiful Chiyogami (Yuzen) papers are handmade in Japan. Each pattern is made up of layers of color that are silkscreened one at a time. In this laborious process, each color is applied using a separate screen. Sometimes as many as 12 colors, including gold or other metallics, may be used to create a single pattern. Traditional silkscreened papers are called Chiyogami, and are printed in designs based on traditional Kimono and textiles.
